Faded output and streaks on Canon PIXMA printers are almost always caused by clogged printhead nozzles. The Canon maintenance tools can resolve this in most cases:
- 1Open Canon IJ Printer Utility (Mac) or Canon IJ Status Monitor (Windows). Navigate to Maintenance → Nozzle Check.
- 2Print the nozzle check pattern. If any rows show gaps or missing lines, the printhead needs cleaning.
- 3Run Cleaning (not Deep Cleaning first). Print another nozzle check pattern.
- 4If gaps remain, run Deep Cleaning. Note: this uses significant ink — only run once or twice.
- 5After cleaning, run Print Head Alignment from the same Maintenance menu.
- 6If streaks persist after 2 deep cleaning cycles, the printhead may need replacement (part number varies by model — check Canon's support site).
